There's a post going around Facebook, a screenshot from Twitter that was posted by a white person, stating that the black history taught in school ( according to them, only an ultra submissive and feminine Rosa Parks and a kiss-ass MLK are taught) is a dumbed-down Disneyland version for white consumption and comfort... How do you feel about this? Personally, what they are saying is not what I was taught, so I take issue with it.
i feel like it depends what school you go to and where in america it is. for instance, i went to an elementary school that was predominantly white and mexican, and i was taught about rosa parks and MLK of course, however we learned about more in depth things in regards to that time period, like the jailings, lynchings and stuff came in middle school. like i remember going into the bombing of birmingham when i reached sixth grade distinctly. we read poems, stories, etc then. but my middle school was predominantly a mix of mexican and asian. my high school was majority mexican, and while we did have a more in depth teaching of black history, i have to say i did learn more about black history from my parents, grandparents, and outside sources. so really i just think its based on where you are in america, who the teacher is, etc. i do think that a predominantly white school would teach the bare minimum of black history though
